Perform

Rehearse the whole event.

A strong performance is music plus people, equipment, place, timing, communication, and recovery. Put all of it on the call sheet.

Rehearsal is communication

Listen across the room.

Agree on the outcome of the rehearsal before playing. Work transitions and cues, not only full run-throughs. Leave ten minutes to write decisions, owners, and the next start point.

The 72-hour check

Nothing important should live only in someone's head.

Check 01

Music

Set order, starts, endings, transitions, cues, tempos, keys, and the first 60 seconds.

Check 02

People

Arrival, responsibilities, contact method, accessibility needs, payment, and who makes the final call.

Check 03

Equipment

Instrument, power, cables, stands, spares, batteries, playback, protection, and a labeled backup.

Check 04

Place

Load-in, parking, stairs, stage size, weather, sound limits, power, green room, and exit plan.

Check 05

Body

Sleep, food, water, warm-up, hearing protection, medication needs, breaks, and recovery time.

Check 06

After

Pack-out, payment record, files or contacts promised, notes while fresh, and recovery.

Soundcheck

Make it useful, short, and calm.

Arrive ready

Know the input list, stage needs, and who communicates with the engineer.

Send clean signal

Set instruments and gain consistently. Play representative loud and quiet material.

Ask specifically

Name what you need more or less of, one source at a time, without performing a speech.

Protect the opening

Confirm the first cue, monitor state, start time, and who walks on when.
